Pune District Education Association (P.D.E.A.), Pune, the parent body of our college, was established by the great social reformer Hon. Baburaoji Gholap in 1941 with a vision of 'Bahujan Hitay, Bahujan Sukhay'. The greatest achievement of the association is that it was awarded "The Best Educational Institution Award" by the Government of Maharashtra in 2000.
P.D.E.A.'s Baburaoji Gholap College, Sangvi, Pune 411027 was established in June 1989 with the motivation of Late Prof. Ramakrishna More, President of Pune District Education Association. The College was established, keeping in view the fact that there was no college of higher education within the fast-developing area of Sangvi, Aundh, Baner, Wakad, Kalewadi, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Thergaon, etc. The major population in this area comes from the middle class and is economically weak.
There are few higher secondary schools in this area, making access to higher education a problem for students, especially for girls since other senior colleges were more than 10 km away from Sangvi. Our college has been imparting education to rural, semi-urban, and urban populations. Starting with a small student body, the college now boasts adequate classrooms, laboratories, a library, a sports center, and a well-equipped computer center. It benefits from a competent, research-oriented faculty and an efficient administrative tradition.
Our multi-faculty college offers undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in Arts, Commerce, Science, Computer Science, and Vocation to students coming from the semi-urban and rural areas of Maval, Mulshi, and Haveli Tahsil. At the undergraduate level, we offer specializations in Marathi, English, Economics, History, Politics, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Computer Science, Computer Application, Software Development, Fashion Technology, Retail Management, Travel & Tourism Management, and Beauty Therapy & Aesthetics. Additionally, we provide postgraduate specializations in Marathi, English, Economics, History, Politics, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry (analytical and organic), Botany, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Fashion Technology, and Software Development & Management. The college also runs seven doctoral programs (Ph.D.) in English, Economics, Political Science, Commerce, Physics, Chemistry, and Environmental Science. All programs align closely with the college's aims and objectives of the college.
Our college caters to the needs of girls from this area, evident in the rising number of female students. The programs we offer are designed with local needs in mind, preparing students for future challenges. We provide special programs, workshops, and skill-oriented courses for girls through our Vidyarthini Manch (Forum for Girl Students). Additionally, we have a wide range of initiatives for the holistic development of all students, including NSS, NCC, Gymkhana, Student Development Board, Extra Mural Board, Internal Cell Against Sexual Harassment (I-CASH), Anti-ragging, Internal Grievance Redressal Cell, Lifelong Education & Extension, Training and Placement Cell, Vidyarthini Manch, Alumni Association, Internal Committee for Differently Abled Students, Career Guidance and Competitive Examination Cell, Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Linkages (CIIL), and Cultural committees.
College has been relentlessly engaged in the pursuit of providing access to higher education from under-graduate level to doctoral level. The college strives for students harmonious development. The vision and mission right from inception have been focused around providing quality education and empowerment of the students
The college desires to become a premier educational institute. In order to maintain high quality standards and blend with the changing scenario, focused measures have been taken to improvise and upgrade the educational facilities with respect to skill based courses, infrastructure, faculty development, financial provisions, interdisciplinary research, placement initiatives, social responsibilities and student centric activities. Due to rapid expansion of Pune, the college has come into urban locale. The vicinity of the college and ecosocio profile of students has transformed to a great extent. To fulfil the changed needs, expectations and academic aims of students in recent times; also giving due consideration to objectives of higher educational institutes in new era.
Principal of the college plays a very important role and has been instrumental in accelerating further growth of the college. Motivation of Principal has resulted in a significant increase in the number of staff members going in for advanced research. Principal's leadership expertise is well implemented in the leadership role as the head of the institution.
The status gained by our college today is all because of proper guidance and inspiration of Hon. Ajitdada Pawar, President of P.D.E.A. and Deputy Chief Minister, Government of Maharashtra. He has broadened the vision of every teacher and employee of the college. The efforts of the entire college staff are focused on the academic as well as overall development of the college and the students.
